The Problem

  • Solve a societal issue: saving people from natural disasters is dangerous we can use robots instead

  • The evidence that supports the idea is the practical examples of robotics use in search and rescue, and how they are currently ineffective in navigating and helping rescue people. 

  • With limited computational power, efficient reinforcement algorithms must be implemented

Research Question

Does representing an RL policy’s steering action in desired-curvature coordinates, rather than nominal steering-command coordinates, improve learning reliability and robustness when actuator dynamics and system parameters are unchanged?
